Presenting Ms Mischief
I’m developing a new piece of work [with the working title of] The Mischief Map of Derby.
This new, illustrated map of Derby will chart:
- Notable projects and stores that’s changed-developed-blossomed and in some cases died in my 13½ years [in September 06] of living in the city. (The Eco Fest, the Literature Fest, Bookstall Forum, Bookthrift...)
- Cool places that have closed to make room for the ring road. (The Rainbow Centre...)
- Absurd ideas to be lampooned. (The White Elephant...)
- The autobiographically significant: loves, losses, old journeys-routes, personal landmarks/icons, current and old haunts. (The Busy Bee Laundrette, the Hit & Run injury spot, The Metro Cinema...)
- Stuff I’m into right now – bands, music, food, art, literature, friends, projects...
- Fantasy elements that Derby should have - an ocean with pebbled beach - populated by Kelpies [with ASBO’s – thank you Z.A.]
This is the first public exhibition for Ms Mischief - my alter ego. I have, however been making mischief orientated artworks since 1994 and have been behaving mischievously and playing pranks on friends, family and colleagues for longer than any of them care to remember!
The map below is part of a proposed body of work Jerry Hope and I developed for an edible artwork commission in [landlocked] Melmerby, Cumbria, UK. The origins of which stem from a story outline I wrote on my fine art degree [at the University of Derby]. We were unsuccessful but the ideas we generated are still bubbling away. Jerry has been kind enough to let me run with the map idea.

Cheers,
Ms Mischief / Antoinette

An Idea! I can see this work as a large print or presented in portions throughout the space as an alternate guide...
